Today we stumbled through Act 1 and spent some time refining blocking. Many of us did it without the script in our hands, but that often led to mishaps. I tried to go ‘all out’, but found it difficult when I couldn’t respond to others naturally (ie. the part of their line that I responded to was forgotten, so my line no longer made sense).
Still, Marc gave some strong notes and I became much more comfortable with the intimate moments. I think some of the worries about intimacy faded when I was in the moment because I knew the layout, so I didn’t have to worry about making my partner uncomfortable. Marc’s notes were:
- consider the fact that in many scenes, we don’t have all day to complete our objectives
- We could be interrupted at any second. Note: Urgency, not speed
- Scottish is hard to understand as-is, so I need to put in extra consonant and tempo adjustments so we can communicate the story
