We did a complete run-through today! Ever since we got into our costumes, I’ve wanted to do a complete run-through. We’re already beginning to see how the story affects people, with our prompters tending to have their jaws open by the end.
I didn’t do as well today as I have in the past. My yelling technique wasn’t there for me, I would direct my energy to the floor, and the fact that I recognized these things as they happened implies that I was self-monitoring to some extent.
I did find spontaneity with all the new props, which I didn’t know would be there until I walked onstage. It was fun. That’s where my energy needs to go now. Marc’s note to me today was to overplay the Colonel’s intimidation and prowess (not too much, but the story justifies some hyperbole). He, rightly, said that I already know my character and have been playing with this element. So… it’s time to have fun. Play! See what I can get away with.
Playing with my physicality had great results in the past because it kept me out of my head, and I’d like this to work similarly. I will be the biggest, baddest Colonel you’ve ever seen, and I need to make myself huuuuge to do this. Most importantly, I need to see that everyone in the room knows Arbuthnot is above them.
