Today we found ourselves in Klein with the set! It’s mostly a skeleton, but we had the opportunity to see what the space feels like. Additionally, we explored the difference in tone we need to have for Klein over our previous space.
We ran through scene two numerous times, each with a different objective. For the first two, we played with tone/volume and clarity. The hope is that in a few months, we can be both natural and heard, despite our volume being much greater than what is needed for our partner to hear us. For the third run, we mouthed the words and focused on interacting with objects in the space. I found a few new opportunities to use the objects in the space to communicate my points.
For the fourth run, we explored how we will see visually that we’ve changed our scene partner’s mind. The fifth run focused on imagining how our costumes might affect us physically during this scene. I did not fare too well on the fifth run because I was so worried about including all the other elements that I forgot to think about my clothes.
I feel like I wasn’t successful today, but I did feel an improvement over the previous rehearsals. I took my time, I was present, but the darn book and remembering my lines still inhibited me from being present.
For my next rehearsal, in addition to memorizing the text, I want to implement the idea that learning is the metric for success. Hopefully, on a moment-by-moment basis, this will provide new things to explore in the moment, as I’m focusing on delving into new ideas instead of doing the current ones perfectly.
